At the time of inception, most mobile devices lacked built-in Sinhala language support, severely limiting users’ ability to read, send messages, and access local-language content on the go.

This technical limitation created significant barriers to communication and digital content accessibility for Sinhala-speaking users, effectively excluding a large portion of the population from the emerging mobile internet economy.

EmetSoft developed innovative mobile applications using J2ME technology to bypass hardware limitations and enable Sinhala language support directly on existing mobile devices.

The project included the development of specialized browsing tools, messaging utilities, and informational portals, all designed to render local scripts accurately on small mobile screens.

These mobile solutions significantly improved accessibility to local-language mobile services. Users gained the ability to communicate and access information in Sinhala without requiring specialized or expensive devices.

The project introduced pioneering mobile technologies to the Sri Lankan market, proving that language barriers could be overcome through creative software engineering and innovative rendering techniques.

The project established a strong foundation for local-language mobile computing and contributed significantly to the growth of multilingual mobile services in Sri Lanka, paving the way for the localized apps of the smartphone era.
